Alocasia 'Venom' is a spontaneous somaclonal mutation discovered in tissue-cultured Alocasia x amazonica ('Polly') stock -- one generation removed from a deliberate cross rather than a new hybrid itself. Trade sources attribute the discovery to grower Mason Lee (Mason Plants, South Korea) around 2019, commercialized around 2022. Its defining trait is an exaggerated, elongated, curling drip-tip on each leaf, evoking the trailing tendrils of the Marvel character it's named for. Leaf coloring is reported inconsistently across sellers -- some describe glossy near-black leaves with bold silver-white veining like classic Amazonica, others a paler, matte silvery-sage tone -- likely reflecting real variation across grow conditions or clones sold under the same name.
