Alocasia watsoniana is a trade name for a distinctive, consistently recognizable form within the highly variable Alocasia longiloba species complex -- POWO/Kew treats "watsoniana" as a formal taxonomic synonym of Alocasia longiloba rather than a separate species, but growers and collectors still distinguish it by look: broader, heart-shaped leaves with a bullate (puckered) blade, wavy margins, sharply in-curved posterior lobes, and strong silvery-white venation against a dark green surface, purple-to-maroon on the underside -- a rounder, showier look than plain longiloba's more elongated, arrow-shaped leaves. It was historically prized as a "jewel Alocasia" and used heavily as a hybrid parent (e.g. in Alocasia x amazonica).
