Alocasia 'Silver Dragon' is a cultivar of Alocasia baginda, a tuberous aroid native to eastern Kalimantan in Borneo. Its thick, bullate (puckered) leaves are dark green with silver between the veins. The silver strength changes with light and leaf age. The 'Aurea' form has gold and yellow-green areas on the silver base. Sources disagree on whether it is a cultivar or a hybrid. It is often confused with Dragon Scale, which is darker green with less silver. Keep it bright and warm, and avoid cold, waterlogged roots.

Before you buy

Silver Dragon sells separately from Dragon Scale and usually costs less; its aurea is the variegated form to look for, and it is uncommon.

  • Don't overpay by confusing it with Dragon Scale — Silver Dragon is a different, generally cheaper plant.
